CAF releases a preliminary list of nominees for the 2021 CAF Women’s Award

The preliminary list of nominees for the 2021 CAF Women’s Award was announced by CAF today, and numerous Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were nominated in various categories.

The 30 candidates for Player of the Year were defender Bambanani “Juice” Mbane and goalkeeper Andile “Sticks” Dlamini.

Teammates Zanele Nhlapho and Andisiwe Mgcoyi joined Dlamini and Mbane in the category for the InterClub Player of the Year award.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were nominated for Club of the Year at the same time. With victories in the Hollywoodbets Super League, the COSAFA CAF Women’s Champions League preliminaries, and the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt, the Brazilians are renowned for completing a treble last season.

Coach Jerry “Kappa” Tshabalala was gushing over his team, which was up for the most coveted award on the continent.

“It feels great for the team to be nominated in several categories of this prestigious recognition of footballing excellence. These nominations show that our hard work and determination are not going unnoticed. These announcements have further given us more motivation to set the pace in African football and beyond. We represented the Southern region of Africa at the inaugural edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League and we did that in style. It is a great pleasure for us to shine more light on the Mamelodi Sundowns brand,” Kappa stated.

Prior to the Africa Women Cup of Nations championship game on July 21, 2022, Rabat, Morocco will host the 2022 CAF Awards ceremony.

Best wishes to our tenacious Ladies!
