One of four Conservative MPs on Partygate has resigned

One of the four Conservative MPs serving on the committee looking into Partygate and Boris Johnson has officially resigned.

Laura Farris, who as of last night was still listed as being involved in the probe on the website of the House of Commons, announced her resignation the day after Parliament adjourned.

She made the announcement that she was leaving the seven-person, cross-party committee looking into whether Mr. Johnson lied to Parliament, but she would not say why.

She said last night: “My resignation has been accepted by the Chair and my role is at an end. The official confirmation won’t follow until the House resumes.”

Since more comments may sway the investigation, she stated she wouldn’t make any.

In addition, she said yesterday that she “maintains faith in the Committee, its members, and the authority assigned to it by the House of Commons.”

Mrs. Farris is a supporter of Rishi Sunak and has previously criticised Mr. Johnson for suspected lockdown violations.

The current Tory members of the committee, Alberto Costa, Sir Bernard Jenkin, and Andy Carter, according to a senior Tory MP, were all feeling the heat.

According to the insider, certain lawmakers would step down to make room for more seasoned ones who are seen to be more unbiased.

Until the House officially fires her and selects a replacement member, Laura Farris MP remains a member of the Committee, according to a second source in the House of Commons.

The committee website states that “Members’ names remain on the webpage until the House officially releases them.”
