One dead, 20 injured of Morocco’s MONUSCO contingent: Moroccan Royal Armed Forces

KINSHASA, 26th July, 2022 (WAM) — A soldier belonging to the contingent of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR), deployed to the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), died on Tuesday, with 20 others left wounded in an attack launched by anti-UN rebels.

Morocco’s Maghreb Arabe Press quoted the General Staff of the FAR as saying that the deceased died due to injuries caused by gunfire during the rebel attacks on several deployment sites of the FAR contingent, as the rebels capitalised on a violent demonstration, which took place on 25th and 26th July and was launched by locals, against the presence of MONUSCO.

Moreover, global media have published reports saying that the incident also led to the death of 2 Indian MONUSCO peacekeepers and 15 protestors, in addition to leaving 50 protestors injured.
