Jane Fonda, 84 years old, revealed on Friday that she has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and has begun treatment. She posted the news on Instagram and said that despite the diagnosis, she remains optimistic.

She said that she has been doing well with chemotherapy so far and plans to continue with her obligations.
Fonda said, “I’m undergoing chemotherapy for six months and am managing the treatments pretty well; but, none of this will affect my climate action.”
She also used the announcement to call for more equitable and accessible healthcare in the United States.
Fonda said, “I recognize, and it hurts, that I am fortunate in this situation.” “Nearly every family in the United States has dealt with cancer at some point, but far too many do not have access to the great health care I am getting, which is unjust.”
This is not Fonda’s first brush with cancer; she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the past and reported being cancer-free in 2010.
Fonda, an outspoken climate activist, pushed for a preventive approach to cancer, stating that the United States should aim to eradicate the chemicals and pollutants that might cause cancer.
“We also need to speak much more about causes, not only treatments, so that we can remove them,” she added. “People must be aware, for instance, that fossil fuels cause cancer. As are insecticides, the majority of which are derived from fossil fuels, like mine.”
According to the American Cancer Society, Non-lymphoma Hodgkin’s is a kind of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, which helps the body fight infections and bacteria. There are numerous subtypes of non-lymphoma, Hodgkin’s but in general, it is characterized by the abnormal growth and tumor formation of white blood cells.
