Edochie, who is the sister-in-law of Pete Edochie, expressed her belief that if the government were to release Kanu, it would bring an end to the unrest in the South East region of Nigeria.

She also criticized the government for seemingly disregarding the lives of its citizens while their own children reside overseas.

Edochie’s message sternly warned the government that if they were among those neglecting the well-being of the people, they and their future generations would never know peace.

Yul Edochie, another prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry, has also made an appeal for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Addressing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his Instagram page, Edochie praised the president’s three-decade-long fight for democracy and described him as a builder and supporter of both men and women.

Edochie earnestly requested President Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, referring to him as a humble son of the president.

Background on Nnamdi Kanu’s Arrest and Charges

In 2021, it was reported by Kemi Filani that Nnamdi Kanu had been re-arrested and brought back to Nigeria to face trial.

Kanu’s initial arrest took place on October 14, 2015, on multiple charges including terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, illegal possession of firearms, and improper importation of goods.

Following a military invasion of his home in September 2017, Kanu fled the country and sought refuge abroad.

In response, the Nigerian government obtained a court order on September 20, 2017, designating Kanu’s organization, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a terrorist group and proscribing it.

Conclusion:

The appeals from prominent figures within the Nigerian entertainment industry, Rita Edochie and Yul Edochie, urging the release of Nnamdi Kanu demonstrate the ongoing concern and dialogue surrounding the political activist’s arrest and the unrest in the South East region.

These calls for his release highlight the desire for resolution and the hope for a peaceful resolution to the tensions within the country.
