Nobody desires it! Flag plans worth R22 million come back to life

Please just let it rest, would you? After it was revealed that the Sports, Arts, and Culture Minister is still attempting to push through his contentious plans for an R22 million flag, Nathi Mthethwa appears to have disregarded the wishes of the people.

Nobody desires it! Flag plans worth R22 million have come back to life.

The project will be headquartered in Freedom Park and will be the tallest flag in the nation. It will also be illuminated at night.

Millions of people, though, and a variety of opponents think the funds could be used much more wisely.

These plans were abandoned earlier this year as a result of a public uproar.

Unfortunately, it appears that the ANC government will push this as far as it can.

According to Mthethwa, the R22 million flag construction is currently “being submitted to Cabinet,” who will ultimately decide whether it will be built or not.

Nathi Mthethwa is accused by the DA of “refusing to engage with the public.”

It seems sense that the DA are furious about this development.

They have accused Mthethwa of “learning nothing” from the whole ordeal after his startling response to their query.

Tsepo Mhlongo, the shadow minister, is enraged at his counterpart:

The proposal “will be sent to Cabinet for additional deliberation and ultimate determination,” the Minister said in response to a DA parliamentary question.

Minister Mthethwa doesn’t appear to have taken any lessons from the outrage that the proposal nearly universally incited in South Africans.

“It is simply remarkable that the Infrastructure Unit of the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture (DSAC) can find no other viable initiative to invest in.

The Minister’s refusal to consult with stakeholders and the general public on this issue demonstrates his lack of concern for social cohesion and nation-building.

To be clear, we believe Mmusi Maimane has a better plan for using the R22 million in flag funding.

@NathiMthethwaSA, as the minister, you should be supporting the incredible #BanyanaBanyana team that made the country proud rather than trying to spend R22 million on flags that light up at night.

Let’s set an example by completely supporting these champions’ careers and the women’s soccer team.
