Nine-year-old Queensland girl taken to hospital after being struck by a vehicle

Just after 8.20 a.m. on Friday, emergency services were summoned to the junction of Augusta Boulevard and Dixon Dr in Pimpama, on the Gold Coast, after reports of a small girl being hit by a vehicle. The incident occurred near Pimpama State Secondary School and Pimpama State Primary School. The nine-year-old was treated for a head injury by paramedics before being sent to Gold Coast University Hospital.
The child had originally lost consciousness, according to Queensland Ambulance Service Operations Supervisor Jayney Shearman.

‘Initially, the child lost consciousness, but she did recover it, and she really improved dramatically while we were with her,’ Ms Shearman told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

‘The head injury was a closed head injury, and there was some internal bleeding as a consequence of that occurrence.’… She was evacuated with a High Acuity Response Officer and a critical care paramedic on board.

Ms Shearman said that the youngster is ‘very fortunate’ and doing ‘exceptionally well’ after sustaining a severe brain injury.

The youngster is in the hospital, where physicians will monitor her health and, if necessary, administer further therapy.

The young lady is in critical but stable condition.

According to police, the collision occurred when the girl was trying to cross the road, and the automobile involved remained at the site.

The incident is being investigated by police. A 12-year-old child was hit by a vehicle just around the corner in 2018 and shattered his leg in two places.

Riley Haydon, a pupil at Pimpama State Primary College, was driven down by a slow-moving automobile only yards from his school.

The state administration authorized traffic safety attendants and a zebra crossing for the risky roadways.

Following two similar occurrences earlier this year, outraged parents had been lobbying the state government for the construction of pedestrian crossings near Pimpama schools.
