Passing of Nigeria’s First FCT Minister, Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun

Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, Nigeria’s first Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, has reportedly passed away at the age of 96.

The business mogul, known for his contributions to the development of Abuja, breathed his last on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

Confirmation of the death came from Oluremi Ajose-Adeogun, a family member, who issued a statement on behalf of the family on Monday.

The statement expressed the family’s sorrow and announced the patriarch’s departure from this world.

Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, FCIS, CON, JP, was appointed as the FCT minister by the military government led by General Muritala Mohammed.

During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the creation of the Master Plan for Abuja, leaving a lasting impact on the development of the capital city.

Prior to his appointment as the FCT minister, Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun had served with distinction as a two-term Federal Commissioner for Cooperatives and Supply in August 1975.

Later, he was appointed as the Federal Commissioner for Special Duties in the Federal Capital Development Authority.

Throughout his life, Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun held various prestigious positions.

He served as the chief of Ita-Aladan, Obun Eko, Isale Eko in Lagos and had a remarkable career at the Shell Petroleum Development Company.

He also made significant contributions to the fields of manufacturing and real estate.

The passing of Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun marks the end of an era and is mourned by many who recognize his invaluable contributions to the development of the nation, particularly his pioneering efforts in shaping the Federal Capital Territory.
