NFL star DeAndre Hopkins celebrates every touchdown with his mother

Sabrina Greenlee, the mother of NFL star DeAndre Hopkins, has a special tradition when she attends her son’s football games.

Every time the Houston Texans play at home, she sits in the same spot in the end zone, close enough to the field to at least hear the ball hit the turf.

And when DeAndre scores a touchdown, he physically brings the ball to her.

This tradition is particularly meaningful because Sabrina is blind – she lost her sight almost 20 years ago after an attack that almost took her life.

Despite her blindness, Sabrina still attends all of her son’s matches to support him.

And while DeAndre’s journey to NFL stardom is well-known, his mother’s story of perseverance following her accident is also remarkable.

Sabrina was not born blind and was perfectly normal before a terrible tragedy struck her.

When DeAndre was just 10 years old, Sabrina was the victim of an acid attack.

At the time, she was in and out of abusive relationships, and on the morning of July 20, 2002, she woke up to find her car missing.

Suspecting her then-boyfriend had taken it, she went to the address he gave her as his residence.

When she arrived, a woman named Savannah Grant opened the door and threw a combination of bleach and lye on Sabrina’s face.

The acid almost killed her, and she was airlifted to a burn unit at a hospital in Georgia.

She spent time in a medically induced coma and suffered severe burns on her face, chest, and back.

After several weeks in the hospital, Sabrina was released. However, because she could not see, she had to quit her job at an automotive plant.

Initially scared to attend her son’s football games for fear that others would stare at her burns, DeAndre was persistent in taking his mom with him.

This eventually led to their special tradition of him bringing her the touchdown ball.

Now, DeAndre is moving on to play for the Arizona Cardinals, and concerns have been raised about his age and a suspension he received last season for testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance.

Despite this, his mother’s unwavering support has been a constant throughout his football career. As Sabrina herself said, “That ball symbolizes so much more than people ever could understand.”
