Newly-hired nurse fired after a father filmed her slamming his newborn baby boy face-down into a bassinet

A nurse at a Long Island hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) was fired after a father caught her on video slamming his newborn baby boy face-first into his bassinet.

The incident occurred while the two-day-old baby named Nikko was being treated with antibiotics in the NICU at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip.

Nikko’s father, Fidel Sinclair, saw the nurse violently turning his son around and slamming him face-first into the bassinet. Sinclair immediately confronted the nurse, who apologized and was subsequently fired.

The nurse’s identity has not been revealed, and the Department of Health is investigating the incident. The hospital said that the safety of its patients is its top priority and that having curtains in the ICU for privacy is standard procedure. Nikko is now at home and doing well.
