NEWBORN BABY FOUND ABANDONED AT PHOENIX POLICE STATION IN KZN

On January 23, a newborn baby was abandoned at the Phoneix Police Station in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Temperatures in the province are forecasted to vary between 32 and 39 degrees Celsius through Tuesday.

Monday at roughly 9:22 p.m., the abandoned baby was reported, according to a representative for the private security firm KZN VIP Protection Services.

Farouk Bobat allegedly heard the newborn baby’s cries in Brayford. Reportedly, Bobat mobilised community members and located the child.

The baby was discovered near Bobat’s residence beside a fence opposite the Phoenix Highway. The private security company was then called for assistance.

“The baby is now safe and in the care of KZN VIP medics who responded to the call together with SAPS. Baby has been treated and transported to a hospital for further medical attention to a medical facility.”

As noted earlier, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a heatwave alert for central and eastern KZN. The alert is effective from midnight on Sunday to midnight on Tuesday, January 24.

In unrelated news, the Gauteng Department of Health reported in November 2022 that 119 babies were abandoned in the province in 2021.
