Better late than never.

New York City received its first measurable snowfall of the season on Wednesday morning, after breaking the record for the longest snowless season in the past 50 years earlier in the week.

Nearly a half-inch of snow covered Central Park when a minor low-pressure system swept over New York City, according to Fox Weather meteorologist Mathew Blue.

“We received 0.4 tenths of an inch. Blue told The Post that this is the latest measurable snowfall for any winter season since records began being maintained in 1869.

The city made history on Monday when Central Park entered the winter season without measurable accumulation for the first time since 1973.

While no further substantial snowfalls are predicted for New York City in the near future, dangerously low temperatures are expected Friday and Saturday.

Blue stated, “We are considering the possibility of wind chills below zero with temperatures in the single digits.”

Since the fall of 2022, the city has had scant snowfall, which is over a foot below the typical annual accumulation.

Both precipitation and cold air are required for snow accumulation that can be measured by meteorologists. Even though numerous winter storms blew across the region this past week, the city has not yet seen ideal winter weather.

The last time there was measurable snow in New York City was 326 days ago, on March 9, 2022, when four-tenths of an inch of snow fell. Mid-December is often when the city receives its first measurable snowfall. According to the Weather Channel, it fell on Christmas Eve a year ago.

Other northeastern cities along the I-95 corridor, such as Philadelphia and Boston, have also experienced a snow shortage this winter.

Recent storm tracks have brought snow to sections of the interior Northeast, while warm air has been drawn into the I-95 corridor, resulting in a winter dominated by rain.

According to the Weather Channel, New York City’s snowiest month is February, thus New Yorkers may soon experience the first significant snowfall of the winter season.
