Neighbourhood car accident writes off a family car

A grandma was left “extremely angry” after a driver who was “blindly driving off from a fight with their partner” wrote down the family’s parked car with both the boot and bonnet open.

After she crashed her Mercedes hatchback into their Volkswagen Touran outside the family’s Sunderland, Tyne and Wear home, Tracey Spraggon claimed she was compelled to spend all of their savings on a new vehicle.

On the morning of Sunday, June 26, the 55-year-old claimed she was at her house with her grandchildren when she heard shouting in the street and looked out the window to see a couple having a tense disagreement.

A man can be seen opening the car boot and hood in the video of the event, seemingly in an effort to block the angry woman from driving away.

The grandma who stayed at home with her children and grandchildren then witnessed in horror as the woman careered down the street and crashed into their parked car head-on, appearing to be rendered blind by the open bonnet.

The family stated that as they fled outdoors, they found that the impact had destroyed their car.

Despite calling the police, they claimed no arrests were made.

‘Me and my granddaughter who lives with me were tidying her bedroom with the window open when we heard a lot of shouting,’ said Ms. Spraggon of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.

We noticed some fighting at the corner when we peered out the window; the woman was having a disagreement with her boyfriend.

She had come down to get the car, which is why he had the hood raised in an effort to take everything out to prevent her from driving.

She wouldn’t have any of it and simply believed she could drive with the bonnet up before crashing into our car.

We sprinted outside and called the cops. My granddaughter, who was outside filming, was inconsolable.

“I’m so livid at what she did, driving with the back end and the bonnet up,” I said.

It was the possibility that the children, who typically play curbside tag in the street, might have been slain while doing so that morning.

‘I thought, “Are you stupid? Your reckless driving had the potential to murder a [kid] ”

She was simply crying and saying, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” as she stood there. Sorry, that’s not good enough, I said.

Ms. Spraggon’s daughter, who lives across the street, heard the disturbance in the street and started filming it from an upper floor window.

The man was seen in the video blocking the woman’s way as she turned the car around as another woman watched, even though the boot and bonnet were both open.

While running downstairs, one of Ms. Spraggon’s grandchildren captured the woman slamming head-on into their car from the end of her driveway.

The family members rushed onto the street and dialled 911 when the motorist struck Ms. Spraggon and her husband’s Volkswagen Touran.

The hit is said to have written off the family’s cherished automobile, which they claimed to have owned for nearly five years without any problems.

The grandmother of eight children remarked, “I was heartbroken when I witnessed the damage.”

Her car pushed our car forward when it struck our car, which then struck my husband’s work van.

Thankfully, my husband’s work van was undamaged, but the car’s doors wouldn’t lock because the electrics had failed, and the vehicle was a total loss.

Our automobile simply required a new tyre after passing its MOT two days prior, but now it has failed and been towed away.

We were warned not to drive it because doing so would be extremely risky due to the impact.

We couldn’t go because we were supposed to take the kids to the beach that day.

We immediately contacted her insurance, and my husband had to call everyone and anyone to try and arrange for a courtesy car so that we could go pick it up.

The insurance company paid us out, but it wasn’t quite enough to cover the cost of a new automobile as we had hoped.

We’ve had our automobile for years with no issues, so we had to spend every last penny of our funds to purchase a new one. It isn’t on.

The family has been forced to downsize from their seven-seater vehicle to a smaller, five-seater automobile after receiving a “disappointing” insurance payment and having to use all of their cash to buy a new car.

According to the grandma, this makes it harder for the large family to go on vacations and celebrate holidays because they can only take three kids out with them at a time instead of five.

The grandparents are grateful that no children were hurt in the crash and now intend to replenish their savings and move past the traumatic event.

I’m simply beyond devastated that I lost my car, I adored my car, Ms. Spraggon remarked. With that car, we never had any problems; it was the nicest thing ever.

We used to be able to transport five grandchildren in the automobile, but now we can only fit three in the five-seater. It was originally a seven-seater.

We had to utilise all of our funds, so my husband will need to work additional overtime in order for us to start saving and take the kids on vacation once more.

“It’s abhorrent that individuals can do this and get away with it,” one person said.

A representative for Northumbria Police stated: “On June 26, just before 10 am, we got a complaint of an accident [in] Sunderland.

A female motorist reportedly hit a parked automobile, inflicting just minimal damage.

There were no injuries.
