The Nigeria COVID 19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, NG-CARES Programme, which is supported by the World Bank, has started distributing working tools to around 1400 poor and vulnerable households.
Governor Abdullahi Sule stated that the state government has established an Inclusive Economic Recovery Programme to eradicate poverty and hunger in the state at the program’s inauguration in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa.
The Governor announced that the state government had established a sustainable template to address challenges and losses in labor income among the poor and vulnerable households as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic. The Governor was represented by the State Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Alhaji Yakubu Lawal.
He urged the recipients to show a strong commitment to using the assistance to hasten the economic recovery of their households.
According to Mr. Umar Dahiru Ibrahim, the Labour Intensive Public Component of the program’s coordinator for Nasarawa State, the beneficiaries were selected from rural communities.
He pointed out that the chosen women and young people, whose education did not extend beyond primary school, would be working cleaning public spaces, including schools, health centers, garbage and refuse collection, and waste disposal in their local areas.
Additionally, Mr. Dahiru Ibrahim stated that each beneficiary will get a monthly payment of 10,000 Naira for the duration of the program’s two-year run.
