Musk sets Twitter employees a job-decision deadline

According to an email issued to Twitter employees by the firm’s new owner, Elon Musk, Twitter is fundamentally a software and server company, and employees must decide by Thursday evening if they choose to remain with the company.

Musk claimed that employees “will need to be incredibly hardcore” in order to create “a groundbreaking Twitter 2.0” and that lengthy hours of high intensity will be required for success. In an effort to reduce expenses, Musk terminated half of the company’s employees, or 3,700 positions.

Musk stated that engineers will play a far larger role at Twitter, with “excellent code” writers representing the majority of the workforce. The billionaire has been criticized in recent days for his managerial style at Twitter, especially his recent choices to remove employees who disagree with him – sometimes publicly.

Musk tweeted on Monday that he had fired a business engineer who had disagreed with him on Twitter regarding the social media service’s app. The tech website Platformer claimed on Tuesday that 20 engineers who had opposed Musk in internal Slack forums were terminated via email.

The Tesla CEO, who acquired the San Francisco corporation for $44 billion at the end of October, is also attempting to eliminate an untold number of contract positions.

The second week of Elon Musk’s Twitter ownership is as hectic as the first 04:46

Musk requested that employees click the link supplied in the email if they wished to join the “new Twitter.” He stated that staff had till Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Eastern to respond to the link. According to the email, employees who do not respond by the deadline will receive three months of severance pay.

“Thank you for your efforts to make Twitter successful, whatever decision you decide,” Musk wrote.
