Murray River finds missing houseboat bucks celebration groomsman Jesse Youd

A father-of-two drowned after falling into a river while holding a bucks party on a houseboat, and police suspect alcohol may have played a factor in his death.

Jesse Youd, a 34-year-old Tasmanian, was out with friends on a houseboat on the Murray River near Mildura on Saturday night.

The decision to utilize a dinghy to go ashore was made by four of the people on board the boat.

But, as soon as it left the houseboat, the boat capsized, and at around 11:30 p.m., all four passengers were thrown into the water.

On Sunday, when three of the men had gone back to the houseboat, it was not until three hours later that the group noticed Mr. Youd was gone.

After summoning the police to Dockside Drive in Mildura, the search was then started.

Officers from the NSW and Victoria Police combed the river all day Sunday in search of Mr. Youd but were unsuccessful.

The SES assisted Mildura police in their search operations.

NSW Police divers came on Monday morning and began looking in the Murray River.

A body was discovered at about 1:30.

Mr. Youd is believed to be the dead even though the body hasn’t been identified in front of the public yet.

The father of two may have drowned, although the exact cause of death is unknown.

Mr. Youd, according to 9News, was staying on the houseboat for the bachelor party and it’s thought he was a guest at the wedding as a member of the groom’s party.

Friends and family of the Youd family have flooded social media with condolences.

April Mahoney said, “My heart hurts for this wonderful young family; I’m extending my support to you at this trying time.

Very really sad. His whole family, especially the guys he was with, has my deepest sympathy. Rowena Crocker said, “I also want to thank the emergency staff.

The Hobart Mercury reports that Mr. Youd is survived by his wife Sarah-Jayne, his children Casey and Dawson, as well as himself.

Officers from the Barrier Police District will compile a report for the Coroner’s records.
