Munsieville Magical Galacticos FC wins Red Bull Kasi Cup

Munsieville Magical Galacticos FC overcame Chego 17 to win the Red Bull Kasi Cup 2022. This victory came after a day in which the top kasi football teams in Gauteng displayed their talents. The team from the West Rand won by a score of one goal to none.

Red Bull Kasi Cup, one of South Africa’s most popular footballing events, returned to the home of kasi football, Alex Stadium, for the second consecutive year on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Four of the greatest kasi teams competed for the championship.

Munsieville Magical Galacticos FC and Basil FC were the first teams to take the field, and after a hard-fought encounter, Munsieville Magical Galacticos FC earned a berth in the finals. Checo 17 prevailed against Bekilanga FC to set up an exciting championship match with the West Rand squad.

Before the final, some of Alexandra’s top soccer players provided a spectacular curtain raiser for the audience of almost two thousand. Former and present Alexandra professional soccer players, notably Papi Mgomezulu, Sphamandla Mlaba, and Seun Mashishi, comprised the two teams.

The opening half of the championship game was intensely fought, with both teams adopting a conservative style of play. Munsieville Magical Galacticos FC came out firing in the second half as they went on the offensive against Checo 17. Nhlonipho Dlamini scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute.

“We are ecstatic with today’s victory and would want to thank Red Bull for providing this chance and experience for the whole squad. It seems like we’ve come full circle – we missed last year’s competition, endured a long travel to get here, and are the first team from West Rand to win the championship, according to the winning team’s coach, Thato Mangqangwana.

The winning team’s captain, Mpho Patane, said, “Our performance was excellent throughout the whole competition. In the semi-final, we played an offensive game and scored several goals. Our last game was a little cautious, but our coach advised us to push and give it our all; we did so and are thrilled to have been declared champions of 2022.

Tebogo Mokoena, Malombo Lichaba, Steve Sekano, and Joseph Makhanya were also there to express their support for the teams competing in their own competition.
