In a shocking case of child abuse, a mother has been convicted of the manslaughter of her nine-year-old son, while her partner has been found guilty of his murder.
The trial took place at Coventry Crown Court, where prosecutors presented evidence of the severe mistreatment suffered by the victim, Alfie Steele, at the hands of Carla Scott and Dirk Howell in Droitwich, Worcestershire.
Gruesome Details of Abuse
According to the prosecution, Alfie Steele endured a series of brutal assaults, sustained numerous injuries across his body, and was even subjected to the horrifying act of being submerged in a cold bath.
This disturbing pattern of abuse was described as a cruel and “sinister” correctional regime inflicted upon the young boy.
Verdicts Delivered
After hours of deliberation, the jury reached its verdicts.
Carla Scott, 35 years old, was found guilty of Alfie’s manslaughter by a majority verdict of 11 to 1.
However, she was acquitted of the charge of murder.
On the other hand, Dirk Howell, 41, was unanimously found guilty of Alfie’s murder, indicating that the jury was convinced of his direct involvement in the child’s death.
Sentencing and Consequences
Following the verdicts, Mr. Justice Wall, the presiding judge, ordered both defendants to be remanded into custody.
They will await their sentencing, scheduled for 11 am on Thursday, where they will face the full weight of the law for their heinous actions.
