More than 30 guns were found in a hospital marketing director’s closet

Police found more than 30 guns, including 27 rifles, in an unsecured closet in the marketing director’s office on Sunday when they were there looking into a bomb threat. He was detained at Newark International Airport.

The Hudson Regional Hospital employee Reuven Alonalayoff, 46, was detained on Sunday by Homeland Security Investigations.

He was accused of having two high-capacity magazines and an assault rifle in his hands.

Authorities said they were unsure about Alonalayoff’s activities at the airport in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.

A bomb threat was reported to Secaucus Police on July 18 at shortly after 3 p.m. at the acute care hospital along the Hackensack River in Secaucus, New Jersey.

A bomb-sniffing canine picked up a smell and directed authorities to an unsecured cupboard at Alonalayoff’s workplace even though the bomb threat turned out to be a fake.

Seven rifles and shotguns, 11 pistols, a.45-caliber semi-automatic Kriss Vector rifle with a high-capacity magazine, and 14 rounds of high-capacity ammo were all found within the large cache of weapons.

Authorities are looking into how Alonalayoff got all the guns into the hospital and how long they were kept concealed in his office.

According to NBC New York, Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said that “the unsecured storing of a huge stockpile of armament, particularly in this area, obviously presents a concern to public safety” and expressed his gratitude that “no one was hurt” as a result of the resolution of the matter.

Alonalayoff has left the hospital, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed to The Jersey Journal.
