Monkey steals and kills a month-old baby after breaking into family’s home in Tanzania

A monkey killed a month-old baby after breaking into his family’s home in a Tanzania village and snatching him away.

A pair of monkeys are pictured in Gombe National Park, western Tanzania, close to where month-old Luhaiba was killed

A pair of monkeys may be seen at Gombe National Park in western Tanzania, near where Luhaiba, a month old, was slain.

In Mwamgongo, western Tanzania, Luhaiba Said was being breastfed by his mother Shayima.

A gang of monkeys broke into the house and kidnapped the boy.

He suffered injuries to his head and neck and died while receiving emergency medical care.

Villagers attempted to rescue Luhaiba by using force, according to regional commander James Manyama.

According to Tanzanian newspaper The Citizen, the animal then attacked the boy and killed him.

Mr Manyama said: ‘She screamed for help and villagers rushed to her house to assist her in getting her child – identified as Luhaiba Said – back from the troop of monkeys.

‘When they tried to take him back by force he got injured on the head and the neck.’

Police urged citizens to stay on the lookout for the dangerous animals.

The commander added: ‘It should be noted that Mwamgongo village shares a border with Gombe National Park.

‘Incidents of animals invading villages are not uncommon.’

It’s not known what species of monkey the animal was, nor exactly how big it was.

The Said family has not yet been pictured.
