The SunHerald stated that a woman from Mississippi felt “ashamed” after a reverend refused to baptize her daughter, who was born before she and her boyfriend were married.

According to the story, the mother, Kamri Mclendon, shared her experience on Facebook last month, stating that “situations like these are why young people are afraid to attend church.”

Yes, I will be the first to say that I have sinned and committed wrongdoing throughout my lifetime. How did my attempt to dedicate my kid to Christ result in our being ostracized for being young parents and unmarried? the message said.

Mclendon stated that once her “baby dedication” was confirmed, she received a letter from Rev. Dewayne Warren of her child church, Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.

According to the post, Warren responded in a letter dated September 15: “I am aware that you and the baby’s father are living together in sin; the child was conceived prior to the parents’ marriage.” “The granny resides with a man. You and your father have not attended our church regularly and consistently.”

The letter further stated that if the church conducted the wedding, “it would serve as a model for our Youth and children.”

According to its website, the church in Sumrall, Mississippi, exclusively supports monogamous heterosexual couples who are married, as reported by The Herald. In the comment area of Mclendon’s post, the reverend’s letter that left her distraught was attacked.

Mclendon stated in an update to her Facebook post that the superintendent met with the pastor and resolved the situation.
