Missing man’s ex-lover is charged with his murder

The former lover of a missing man, whose dismembered torso was found in a wheelie bin, has been charged with his murder.

SA Police recently arrested two people and charged them with the murder of Geoffrey McLean, who was reported missing in August 2022.

Sheree Glastonbury, who was reportedly Mr McLean’s long-term lover, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with his death.

The court heard Glastonbury would not apply for bail and was adjourned for charge determination in June.

Mark John Murphy, 51, also faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, charged with Mr McLean’s murder.

Court documents have revealed Murphy had allegedly been involved in a series of crimes against Mr McLean, including assault, trespass, attempted murder, and causing serious harm since April last year.

In April 2022, Murphy allegedly assaulted Mr McLean with a log splitter, landing him in the hospital. Despite this, police believe Murphy helped murder Mr McLean just four months after the brutal attack.

In October, Mr McLean’s dismembered torso was found in a bin in a Salisbury South vacant block. Last month, police released CCTV footage of two people acting suspiciously near the lot where Mr McLean’s torso was dumped.

Police later confirmed that the wheelie bin used to discard some of Mr McLean’s body parts had been stolen from an address about 900m from the scene in Eastview St at Brahma Lodge. It is alleged that the wheelie bin was stolen sometime after his murder.

Outside the court, Glastonbury’s sister, Tina, spoke to the media, saying, “It’s upsetting. I’d love to discuss it further, but I can’t make any comments due to the court proceedings.

It’s been horrific, and I suppose it’s just the start of the journey.”
