Ministers in the Security Cluster will on Monday visit Khayelitsha, in Cape Town, to respond to the community’s safety needs

To address the community’s safety requirements, ministers from the Security Cluster will visit Khayelitsha in Cape Town on Monday.

The Police Ministry claimed in a statement that the community involvement is in reaction to a high number of contact crimes that have been reported in the Western Cape municipality.

The most recent were the several shootings over the weekend that resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals.

The community will have a chance to speak with the Ministers, top SAPS management, and representatives from the Department of Community Safety and City of Cape Town during the meeting on Monday on the efforts made by the federal and provincial governments to address their crime concerns.

According to Lirandzu Themba, a spokesperson for the ministry, the home affairs and police ministers, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi and Bheki Cele, will present cross-sectoral and cross-departmental solutions at the community engagement that result from the Khayelitsha Response Summit, which had its most recent meeting on June 16, 2022.

The meeting’s opening session will consist of a review of a functioning SAPS parade at Belhar’s 35 Squadron.

The destruction of alcohol will then take place at the same location after this.

In 10 am, the Ministers will hold a Ministerial Imbizo at the Khayelitsha Desmond Tutu Community Hall.
