Millions of Americans are preparing for the wildest thunderstorm in Californian history

More than 90 million Americans are facing severe weather, including blinding blizzards, violent thunderstorms, and tornado watches from coast to coast. The Southwest states are experiencing heavy snow and high winds, with gusts of up to 45mph and up to eight inches of snow.
The weather is expected to move northward up the Rockies and into the Pacific northwest and upper Midwest throughout Friday. This follows the historic blizzards in California this week, which left people buried under up to seven feet of snow and prompted Governor Gavin Newsom to declare a state of emergency.

An unseasonably warm patch of air is expected to settle over the southern plains and move east, bringing with it a cell of severe storms that could bring with them baseball-sized hail and conditions that are ripe for dangerous tornadoes. New York is expected to see snow changing to a freezing wintry mix, while parts of New England could be buried under up to 12 inches of snow.

The Golden State has been blanketed by snow, with Governor Newsom deploying the national guard to help residents in San Bernardino County, where some have been trapped in their homes for days. Wind, freeze, and winter storm warnings were issued by The National Weather Service throughout California, as temperatures hit sub-freezing lows down to 26 degrees Fahrenheit in certain areas.

Southern California mountain ranges were hit by several feet of snow, and residents begged the governor for help clearing the roads as food and water supplies run low.

The storm that clobbered California began moving west on Wednesday and is expected to turn into severe thunderstorms across the southern plains region before pushing further east into the south. The storms will begin developing over east Texas, southern Arkansas, and northern Louisiana, and bring with it winds up to 80 miles per hour, and massive hail.

Conditions will be ripe for tornadoes, and forecasts predict that those that form could be EF-2 strength and bring with them winds of 111 miles per hour.

New York and New England will see unseasonably warm weather Thursday, with temperatures dropping quickly overnight and Friday drizzles turning into snow by the evening. Massachusetts and New England will experience snow and wind moving in Friday night before turning into a heavy wintery mix by Saturday morning, with interior Massachusetts expecting up to a foot of accumulation.
