In Mexico, a drunk guy sustained injuries while attempting to take the sword from a statue of St. Michael the Archangel from a church.

Michael Alonso, 32, attended his local church in Monterrey in the wee hours of the morning. According to a source translated by the Catholic News Agency, Alonso broke into the church during the night before falling and slicing his neck with a sword, causing significant harm.

Locals who witnessed the occurrence at the church’s entrance sought for aid, whereupon he contacted local police shortly thereafter. Prior to being turned over to the authorities, he received much-needed medical care. The statue was returned to the church in undamaged condition.

St. Michael is typically depicted with a sword because he is associated with defending the heavenly realm against heathenism and the Devil.

In Catholicism, the Archangel St. Michael is viewed as the protector of the heavenly host and the ally of God’s troops against the Devil, which is why he is typically represented with a sword.

In Revelation 12:7-8, the Bible states, “Now war broke out in heaven, with Michael and his angels fighting the dragon.” And the dragon and his angels battled back, but were beaten, and no longer had a seat in heaven.’

The feast day of Saint Michael, commonly known as Michaelmas, is observed by Catholics on September 29. Tradition prescribes a day spent with family and a lunch of geese stuffed with potatoes, vegetables, and herbs.

Many residents viewed Alonso’s wounds as divine retribution. Adding a well-deserved addition to the saint’s formidable legacy as a warrior.

The thief being slain by St. Michael, the church’s protector, has been described by some locals as divine vengeance.

Lupita, a shopkeeper in Monterrey, confirmed this to ABC Noticias.

“He was punished for his bad behavior,” she stated. “Saint Michael is for protection, to combat evil, I think that’s why that happened to him.”

In October, another thief attempted to steal the alter boy statue from the church, but was swiftly arrested by the police.
