Men join women to strip down for the annual GoTopless day parade in support of equal rights

If I can, so can she! GoTopless Day is observed yearly on the Sunday preceding Women’s Equality Day in the United States. Men join women in removing their tops and marching in a procession seeking equal rights for women to be shirtless.

Yesterday, when female protestors took to the city streets, they were backed by members of the opposing sex.

In cities and states around the United States, the legality of women going topless in public varies.

In excess of 30 states permit the practice, whereas Indiana, Tennessee, and Utah prohibit it.

GoTopless day, a day that promotes gender equality and women’s rights to display their breasts in public, was observed in cities around the United States yesterday with the backing of members of the opposite gender.

GoTopless Day is observed yearly on the Sunday immediately preceding Women’s Equality Day, which commemorates the day American women won the right to vote.

A group of perhaps 50 women and men were walking topless in the Los Angeles area of Venice, in front of a large, pink, inflatable breast that read “equal topless rights.”

A sign carried by one marcher said, “My Body Is Not A Crime.”

On the opposite side of the country, a few dozen women and a few men marched down Broadway in New York City without tops, where it has been permitted to do so since 1992.

Some ladies carrying a flag led the march, followed by others in an open-top convertible towing a pair of enormous inflatable breasts.

As parade participants passed, onlookers gawked and took photographs.

The gatherings in New York City and Los Angeles were two of several scheduled for cities throughout the world, and similar marches were also planned for New Hampshire and Denver.

GoTopless activists claim that women should be permitted to go topless in public just like males.

Cities and states have differing rules about whether it is lawful for women to go topless in public, however the practice is legal in over 30 states.

The parade is staged in late August to coincide with ‘Women’s Equality Day,’ which commemorates women gaining the right to vote on August 26, 1920 in the United States.

The legality of women going topless in public varies by city and state, though the practice is lawful in more than 30 jurisdictions.

The president of GoTopless, Nadine Gray, stated that she believes the events would eliminate the shock and awe associated with seeing female breasts.

She stated, “This push for women to go topless in the 21st century is comparable to women desiring the right to vote in the 20th century.”

It may be sensual, but being sensual is not unlawful.

Kia Sinclair, an event organizer for GoTopless Day at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, said of the demonstrations: ‘It’s to show people that it’s normal, that it’s not a huge thing, and that it’s not about attention or protesting.’

Sinclair was also a member of a group of women who helped defeat an initiative to criminalize homelessness in the state last year.

Only three states prohibit women from appearing in public without a top: Indiana, Utah, and Tennessee.

However, there have been instances of women being detained for “disorderly behaviour” in locations where it is permitted for them to be topless.

Rael, the French spiritual leader and founder of the Raelien movement in 1974, established GoTopless in 2007.

Freeing the nipple is only a minor component of the Raelien ideology, which also asserts that Earth was a lifeless rock before extraterrestrials brought it to life.

Rael has produced books containing what he claims is a blueprint for governing the future of humanity and Earth that was handed to him by an extraterrestrial human.

Women are more outraged than men by females who expose their breasts in public, according to a recent study from Western Illinois University. The GoTopless movement strives to promote women’s rights to expose their breasts in public and gender equality.

More than 300 men and women were shown photographs of topless women in a variety of settings and asked to judge their appropriateness on a scale from one to eleven.Charles Langley (R) of Kansas City, Missouri has his chest painted by artist Carmen Consalvo prior to the start of the 2022 GoTopless Day Parade on August 28, 2022 in Denver, Colorado

Western Illinois University professor Colin Harbke was not surprised that men were more tolerant of breasts in everyday life.

However, the expert did not anticipate that the respondent’s gender would be the most influential element in determining whether or not a photo would be deemed appropriate. There are only three states where it is illegal for women to go topless in public - Indiana, Utah and Tennessee (march in Denver pictured on August 28)

Professor Harbke told the Times, ‘There is a contradictory pattern wherein the evidence suggests that women monitor other women’s behavior…and they do so by ascribing a notion of morality.’

Adding that it was strange, he said, “It demonstrates just how complicated human behavior is when we’re discussing something as simple as whether or not someone is wearing a shirt.”
