Melbourne woman dies as boyfriend prepared to propose on vacation

Sadly, a young woman was killed in a car accident only days before her ideal vacation abroad, where her boyfriend had planned to pop the question.

On Friday, Georgia McDonald, 30, of Ferntree Gully, in the south-east of Melbourne, was on her way home from her university in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, where she had just six weeks remaining until she could become a certified oral health therapist.

She was killed as a result of her injuries after being engaged in an accident with a silver Chevrolet truck in Glenburn, about 45 minutes away from her house.

Tom Van Staveren, her boyfriend, was supposed to pick up her engagement ring on Saturday before they left for a romantic trip to Bali on Sunday, where he was supposed to propose.

To cover the costs of the young woman’s funeral, whose family and friends described her as “beautiful, brilliant, and kind-hearted,” a GoFundMe has been established.

Tallula Galea said on the online fundraiser, “Georgia was soon to be proposed to by Tom on their vacation in Bali, he was picking up the perfect engagement ring on Saturday morning before flying off on Sunday.”

This was the reason for how thrilling she found the romantic vacation to be. Georgia had a job lined up at a clinic she worked at for ten years and was six weeks away from earning her degree as an oral health therapist, her dream career.

She put in a lot of effort and did well in school; her teachers praised her for “exceeding expectations,” and her patients adored her.

More than $20,000 has already been donated to the cause as the neighbourhood and strangers come together to support Ms McDonald’s kin.

“The support has been overwhelming, the goal has been met, and any extra money will go to Rachel, Georgia’s mother.” To help Georgia achieve her dream and enable her mother to retire,” Ms Galea wrote.

She loved you all so dearly, Georgia’s lovely family and friends. With her stunning smile and contagious giggle, Georgia won the hearts of countless people.

“Georgia’s love knew no boundaries; she gave it to everyone and everybody.” She left a lasting impression on everyone with whom she came into contact.

Her distraught partner also shared a brief note on social media begging for support as they said their final goodbyes to the love of their lives.

With the abrupt and unfortunate demise of my soon-to-be fiancée, Georgia, I politely beg for your charity in paying for her memorial instead of sending flowers so that we can give my darling daughter the send-off she deserves, Mr Van Staveren stated.

The driver of the ute, a 42-year-old guy, stopped after the collision but sustained no injuries.

The Victoria Police acknowledged that although no charges have yet been filed, they are still looking into the matter.

According to authorities, “the precise circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been identified and the investigation is ongoing.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the event or dashcam video to get in touch.
