Melanie Meigh is ordered to pay £100 in compensation to her former Tinder lover

Melanie Meigh, a 20-year-old female farmer, was ordered to pay £100 in compensation to her former Tinder lover, Jack McMahon, after she admitted to four counts of criminal damage, three of theft, and one of harassment. Meigh had only known McMahon for three weeks when their fling ended, and she subsequently launched a week-long campaign of harassment against him.

She stuffed apples into his car exhaust, scrawled profanity on his garden gate, vandalized his vehicle with spray paint, and let his tires down.

Meigh had stolen McMahon’s passport, spanners, and £12 in cash. She also called him multiple times, bragging about her actions. She was caught with a male friend loitering inside McMahon’s house and subsequently charged with the offences.

Warrington Magistrates Court banned Meigh from contacting McMahon for 18 months under the terms of a restraining order. She was also sentenced to an 18-month community order with 25 days of rehabilitation requirements and fined £120, with a £114 victim surcharge. The court heard that Meigh is now expecting a child and awaiting paternity test results.

During the trial, the prosecutor, Natasha McAdam, described the events that led to the charges. She said that McMahon decided to end communication due to issues between them, and upon telling Meigh, she replied the house was going to get ”smashed up” and added: ”I hope you like your car”.

She subsequently attended McMahon’s house with a friend and was abusive and threatening. The word ‘t**t’ was spray-painted on a wall, and the car exhaust had apples inside. The inside of the exhaust was damaged with spray paint. McMahon also noted that £12 had been taken along with his passport and spanners.

The court heard that Meigh had previous convictions for common assault and battery involving her adopted mother in February 2021. Her lawyer, Stuart Flood, described the offences as petty and that there was an element of immaturity in her actions. Meigh’s co-accused, Owen Suckling, 24, of Sandbach, was charged with the same offences, except for the criminal damage to the bicycle. He pleaded not guilty and will appear for trial on May 5.
