The ex-NBC actress alleged on her podcast that Megyn Kelly asked Jane Fonda about her plastic surgery during an unpleasant on-air interview in 2017 because Robert Redford’s publicist wanted the broadcast journalist to divert the conversation from the co-stars’ love scenes.

Kelly, who interviewed the on-screen pair at the time, reported that Redford was “visibly uncomfortable” with Fonda because she “kept wanting to talk about being in bed with” him while promoting their 2017 picture.

Kelly revealed on her SiriusXM podcast on Wednesday that while she was host of NBC’s “Megyn Kelly Today” in the fall of 2017, Redford’s manager wanted her to shift the subject away from their hot love scenes, which led to an embarrassing debate with Fonda regarding her reconstructive surgery.

The Fonda incident occurred during the first week Kelly’s show was broadcast. Kelly was a prize acquisition for NBC after leaving Fox News.

In the fall of 2017, while hosting “Megyn Kelly Today” on NBC, Megyn Kelly interviewed Jane Fonda and Robert Redford.

While promoting their Netflix romance-drama “Our Souls at Night,” Redford and Fonda granted Kelly an interview, marking the fourth time they co-starred in a major Hollywood motion film.

“Robert Redford and Jane Fonda were on set at NBC in 2017…

“She had been doing a publicity tour with all of this strange sex talk about him,” Kelly said on Wednesday’s episode of her show.

Kelly stated, “She incessantly wanted to discuss being in bed with Robert Redford in the film.” In the film, Redford and Fonda play a widow and a widower who begin platonically sharing a bed to alleviate their grief and loneliness.

Fonda, according to Kelly, frequently mentioned the love scenes with Redford in promotional interviews, including her appearance on Kelly’s NBC show.

Redford seemed noticeably uncomfortable with the situation, according to Kelly.

“And during the commercial break, Robert Redford’s publicist specifically asked me if I would try to steer the conversation away from that, if I would change the subject,” Kelly added.

Kelly responded affirmatively when asked if he would interview Redford’s publicist.

Kelly asked Fonda about “having work done,” which Fonda maintains was a favor for Robert Redford, following the resumption from a commercial break.

But, the interview became a cringe-worthy spectacle when Fonda appeared stunned by the question.

During the discussion, Kelly said Fonda, “You’ve been an example of how to age gracefully, with confidence, and without apology.”

“You acknowledge that you have had work done, which I believe is to your credit. Yet you look beautiful … You stated that you were not proud to acknowledge having completed work. “So why not?”

Fonda asked Kelly with a surprised expression, “Do we really want to discuss that now?”

The actress then attempted to divert the subject when Kelly complimented her appearance and stated, “You look absolutely stunning.”

“Thank you,” Fonda said to Kelly. “Good disposition, good posture, look after myself.”

Fonda then transitioned: “However, allow me to explain why I prefer Our Souls at Night to plastic surgery.”

Wednesday, Kelly stated that Fonda’s comments regarding plastic surgery led her to believe that the subject was not sensitive.

Wednesday, Kelly stated, “That is why I decided to revisit a topic she has discussed a million times before: her plastic surgery.”

“It was pertinent because the film is about aging and a woman coming to terms with what that entails.”

Kelly said, “Thus, I deemed it the least embarrassing location to visit. Wrong!”

Fonda, who was 80 years old at the time, stated in a 2017 interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada that she was perplexed by the timing of Kelly’s plastic surgery query.

Fonda said, “A little bit,” when asked if she was “shocked” by Kelly’s inquiry.

Fonda told ET Canada: “Given that we don’t have much time and Bob is right here, it’s odd to bring up whether or not I’ve had plastic surgery.”

“I have and I have discussed it. It seemed inappropriate to ask that question there.”

Fonda made negative remarks about Kelly weeks after the on-air confrontation, prompting Kelly to respond by bringing up Fonda’s “Hanoi Jane” moniker.

During the Vietnam War, Fonda, who opposed the US war effort, was pictured sitting near an anti-aircraft gun used to attack American warplanes. Since then, she has expressed regret about the photo.

Fonda and Redford’s representatives were not immediately available for comment.

In recent weeks, there has been fresh interest in Robert Redford’s on-screen relationships, particularly in light of a new book that claims the Hollywood hero did not want to co-star with Barbra Streisand in the 1973 romantic drama “The Way We Were.”

Robert Hofler’s recently published book, “The Way They Were: How Epic Battles and Bruised Egos Brought a Classic Hollywood Love Story to the Screen,” recounts the film’s production.

Redford donned two pairs of underwear to “protect himself” from the singer, according to the book.

Hofler told Fox News that it took two days to film the famous sex scene because Streisand insisted on doing “take after take” with Redford on top of her.
