Joanna Weiss, a writer, stated that she is attracted to Markle and Prince Harry, but the Netflix documentary Harry and Meghan turned her against them.
She adds, “My natural sympathy for the pair began to morph into aggravation, and I realized that ego has limitations.” And it occurred to me that the overreach that led to the Sussexes’ critically panned mega-series is the same impulse that turned Elon Musk into a Twitter terror, that led Ye to escalate his outrageous behavior until he crossed the line into blatant antisemitism, and that sent Bankman-Fried from the top of the world to a Bahamian prison.
In a year-end article for Politico, a writer compared Meghan Markle to Donald Trump, Kanye West, Elizabeth Holmes, and Sam Bankman-Fried as “narcissists.”
Weiss acknowledges that the royal couple has real issues, but states, “Even favorable commentators have grumbled that there is little new here beyond the pair’s vanity.”
The article acknowledges that the Sussexes’ type of narcissism is more “benign” than that of Kanye West, Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and Sam Bankman-Fried, but that it can become problematic when it reaches the level of these three in particular.
Meghan & Harry, helmed by Liz Garbus, is the first film to emerge from the multi-year arrangement the couple struck with the streaming giant in 2020, shortly after announcing their intention to step down as working royals.
Together with their company Archewell Productions, the couple announced in September 2020 a relationship with Netflix to collaborate on a variety of projects, including documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programming.
In a statement issued at the time, they stated, ‘Our focus will be on creating material that not only informs, but also inspires.’ It is also crucial to us as new parents to create uplifting family programming.
They stated that Netflix’s “extraordinary reach will enable [them] share action-inciting content.”
The duchess revealed her first project with Netflix, an animated series titled Pearl, for which she will serve as creator and executive producer, in July of 2017.
However, in May of this year, Pearl was removed from the streaming service as part of a round of cuts driven by a decline in customers.

Bryan Stevenson, a 63-year-old US social justice campaigner and law professor, Albie Sachs, an 87-year-old former South African judge, rugby star Siya Kolisi, 31, and journalist Gloria Steinem, 88, will also be featured.
The duo is credited as executive producers and will likely participate in the series.
