Meghan Markle explains why she donned rainbow-colored clothing after leaving her royal position

She resembles a rainbow.

In the Thursday-released fifth episode of the “Harry & Meghan” docuseries on Netflix, Meghan Markle recounts how her style evolved when she and Prince Harry left their top royal positions.

Two months after announcing their departure from the monarchy, the Sussexes returned to the United Kingdom in March 2020 for their final official royal appearances, with the duchess shining in a series of ultra-vibrant costumes that marked a dramatic contrast from her previous attire.

Markle, 41, claimed, “Until that last week in the United Kingdom, I rarely wore color because I never wanted to steal the show or ruffle any feathers, so I just tried to blend in.”

“However, I wore several bright colors that week. It just felt like, ‘Well, let’s just look like a rainbow.’”

The Duchess of Sussex wore a bright blue Victoria Beckham dress to the Endeavour Fund Awards, a red-hot Safiyaa gown to the Mountbatten Music Festival, and an emerald green Emilia Wickstead dress for the Commonwealth Day service during the couple’s farewell tour, which the Duke described as a “whirlwind.”

Prince Harry synchronized his attire with that of his wife for each public appearance, donning a navy suit and light blue tie for the Endeavour Fund Awards and a suit with a vivid green lining for Commonwealth Day.

Markle stated in an earlier episode of the documentary series that her use of “muted tones” during her early royal engagements was “considered.”

“From what I gather, if there is a group occasion, you may never wear the same color as Her Majesty [Queen Elizabeth II]. “However, you should never wear the same hue as one of the other more senior family members,” she added.

Markle stated that she purposefully wore neutral colors to her first royal engagements.

“Therefore, I asked myself, ‘What color will they probably never wear? Camel? Beige? White?’ … I’m not trying to attract attention here. There is no version of me entering this family in which I did not make every effort to fit in.”

The duchess is now free to wear any color she chooses, as evidenced by the ravishing scarlet Carolina Herrera gown she wore to the Salute to Freedom Gala last year.

The Salute to Freedom Gala acknowledges “exceptional leadership” and pays tribute to the valiant men and women who defend our nation.
