Rapper Meek Mill reportedly secured bail for 20 Philadelphia women last weekend so they could celebrate the Christmas with their family.
The 35-year-old artist’s NGO, REFORM Alliance, coordinated the good deed by working with the Riverside Correctional Facility to send the detained women back home for the Christmas.
The group posted on social media that “the women, who were unable to obtain bail, will now be allowed to spend the holiday season with their family and loved ones.” With the aim of releasing 15 additional women in the upcoming week, five ladies were released today and will be reunited with their family. Additionally, each of the ladies will receive a gift card that can be used to buy groceries or holiday presents, according to REFORM.
A statement from Mill (real name Robert Rihmeek Williams) was also made. The “God Did” rapper began by saying that the holidays can be a very difficult time for families who have been affected by the criminal justice system.
“If we can do something about it, nobody should have to spend the holidays in jail just because they can’t afford bail, and no child should be without their parents during this time. I’m appreciative of the chance to support these women so they can spend this precious time of year with their families and loved ones.
This year, Mill did other Christmas magic in addition to this one.
Earlier this month, he and REFORM collaborated with Philadelphia Eagles owner Michael Rubin to sign 35 children to a special, official, one-day contract with the team. The children had been affected by the criminal justice system. The kids received personalized jerseys and had the opportunity to meet some of their favorite professional football players.
