Mbalula unveils ANC’s strategy to improve South Africa

Friday marked the conclusion of the ANC’s 55th national conference, which was a continuation of last month’s Nasrec electoral conference.

Fikile Mbalula, the party’s secretary-general, addressed the media at the Imvelo Safari Lodge in Mangaung during a hybrid conference and stated that the ANC was committed to addressing the “socio-economic challenges facing the country.”

“The ANC’s primary objective is to improve the lives of all South Africans. All freedom-loving and democratic-minded individuals must reject and refute the conservative and neo-liberal narrative in our country that suggests life was better under apartheid and colonialism, he said.

He put forward the following:

Priority must be given to expediting the resolution of the energy issue, with special emphasis on Eskom maintenance.
We must expand the economy such that it provides jobs and empowers Africans, especially young, women, township, and rural populations.

We must implement new measures to reduce red tape and ensure that small entrepreneurs, co-ops, and informal businesses, especially those owned by women and young people, have access to capital and markets.

We must do more to bring underutilized land into production and allow the government to acquire agricultural property for distribution to formerly disadvantaged individuals.

While the government studies the modalities and affordability of the basic income grant, the conference backed the continuation of the social relief of distress award.

The security agencies must act more effectively to combat widespread criminality and corruption.

The conference strongly criticized the continuous harassment and discrimination of black people, who are attacked and victimized on the basis of their skin color.
