The three suspects are scheduled to appear in court for the first time today in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court for the suspected murder of the mayor of Collins Chabane Municipality in the Vhembe District.
The suspects, who range in age from 30 to 50, were apprehended during thorough police investigations that got under way right away after the event at Shikundu village, which is within the Saselamani policing area, last Thursday night.
Three individuals approached the Mayor and his 18-year-old son after breaking into the building at 19:00.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police for Limpopo, visited the area shortly after the shootings and quickly put together a team of investigators under the direction of a Senior Officer to look into the situation.
Within a week, the squad was successful in capturing the suspects.
Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe praised the squad for the perseverance they have shown in looking into the incident and thanked the locals for helping the police battle crime.
Murder and attempted murder are the charges made against the suspects.
Police are still looking into everything.
