Marko Dmitrovic defends himself against pitch invader

During the Europa League play-off round match between Sevilla and PSV, Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic was forced to defend himself against a pitch invader who attempted to attack him.

The incident occurred towards the end of the game, which saw Sevilla progress 3-2 on aggregate despite losing 2-0 on the night.

The hooded fan swung a punch at Dmitrovic, but the goalkeeper managed to wrestle him to the ground and pin him down until other players and security arrived to separate them.

Pictures of the incident showed the punch appearing to connect with Dmitrovic’s face.

The event prompted numerous comments on social media, with many condemning the attacker’s behaviour.

Dmitrovic later commented on the incident, stating that he hoped such incidents would be punished in the future.

Although PSV won 2-0 on the night, it was not enough to overcome Sevilla’s 3-0 first-leg lead, and Sevilla progressed to the last-16 stage.
