Mark Selby used up one of his nine lives as he narrowly defeated Matthew Selt 10-8 to secure his place in the last-16 at the Crucible.

Selby, who is seeking his fifth World Snooker Championship crown, had a tense encounter against the world No. 29 but managed to come out on top.

However, it was not all smooth sailing for the Jester from Leicester, who narrowly avoided a potential nightmare in the 17th frame.

With just one more frame needed for victory, Selby lined up a seemingly simple blue to the middle pocket.

But he miscued loudly, sending the blue flying around the table.

The error could have put Selby in a tough spot, but instead, the blue rolled slowly into the top pocket, with Selby ending up in a perfect position on the only red left on the table.

The Eurosport commentary team and viewers on Twitter were stunned by the stroke of luck.

Although Selt managed to win the frame, he was unable to stop Selby from recovering to win the next one and secure a 10-8 victory.

He will now face Gary Wilson in the next round.
