Man gets only 13 years for murdering his girlfriend

The Bethlehem Regional Court sentenced a 34-year-old man, Seako Aaron Mosia, to an effective 13 years of direct imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, Mamakhowa Selina Mokonyane.

Both Mosia and Mokonyane lived on Jagersfontein Farm in the district of Petrus Steyn. On July 4, 2022, at around 8:45 am, the police were called to Jagersfontein Farm, where they discovered the body of Mokonyane on her bed.

She had injuries on her forehead, face, and upper body. The accused was found near the murder scene, where he tried to commit suicide.

South African Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring reported that Mosia was found guilty of the murder of his girlfriend and sentenced to an effective 13 years of direct imprisonment. The motive behind the murder is unknown.
