Man gets life for raping neighbor’s child

A man was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday, September 6, for the three-year-old rape of a minor belonging to a neighbor.

In July 2019, according to NPA Regional Spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, the Randburg Magistrates’ Court sentenced Johannes Motshabi to life imprisonment for raping a child under the age of seven in Diepsloot.

“Motshabi was found guilty of rape and abduction. “At the time, the accused was 27 years old when he seized his neighbor’s child, who was playing with other children in the street, brought her to his shanty, and raped her,” she explained.

“On her way home, the minor told an unidentified person about the incident,”

The individual accompanied her to the accused’s residence, where they informed his mother of the incident. The kid was transported home by Motshabi’s mother, where the police were contacted and the suspect was detained.

Even though the child’s testimony consisted of a single witness, the court found it trustworthy and supported it with medical proof.

Given Mbedzi, the state’s attorney, claimed that the minor’s innocence was ruthlessly seized by someone she knew and trusted, and urged the court not to deviate from the minimum mandatory penalty of life imprisonment.

In addition, he urged the court to consider the report made by the Probation Officer from the Department of Social Development, Jabulani Mbala, in which the mother of the victim said that the child was traumatized and unable to cope.

Mjonondwane stated that the National Prosecuting Authority commends the Court Preparation Officer, Judin Mbalati, for providing support to the minor child and ensuring that she is prepared to describe her ordeal in court, the investigating officer, Sergeant Mokwai from the Diepsloot Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit, and Adv. Mbedzi for their roles in this successful prosecution.
