A woman discovered what many assume to be the penis of a whale that had washed ashore.
This week, a woman walking along the beach on Magnetic Island in northern Queensland discovered the big greyish item.
It appeared severed from an animal, as its fleshy inside was visible at the top.
She decided to post a video of the unknown object on TikTok in the hopes that someone would be able to identify it.
“What the hell is that?” It is enormous, roughly the size of my leg,’ she claimed. ‘Ew, disgusting.’
As humpback whales are presently reproducing in the area, fellow TikTok users hypothesized it resembled a whale’s penis.
The video even piqued the interest of wildlife expert Dr. Vanessa Pirotta, who stated that without actually observing the object, scientists would be unable to confirm its identity.
It is difficult to determine exactly what this object is without seeing it in person. As scientists, we want as much information as possible on the size and appearance from every viewpoint, therefore we simply do not know at this time,’ she stated in her own video.
The location where this unidentified object was discovered is currently teeming with humpback whales.
However, Dr. Pirotta refuted the possibility that the penis was “bitten off.”
She stated, “If this is the penis of a male humpback whale, it is quite unlikely that it was bitten off by another humpback whale.”
I’ve never heard of a male biting off another male’s penis because these whales lack teeth and instead have long hair-like strands known as baleen.
She did suggest that perhaps a killer whale had attacked the other marine species, but noted that there were no identifying marks on the object.
Dr. Pirotta stated, “This is currently a mystery.”
