Lori Vallow, the mother of two children who were murdered by members of the Doomsday cult, grinned in court on Tuesday during a procedural hearing before her capital murder trial.
Throughout the hearing in Idaho, 49-year-old Vallow grimaced and laughed, sometimes glancing back at the public gallery. In September of 2019, she is suspected of killing her two children, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old JJ Vallow, after becoming preoccupied with the end of the world.
In 2020, their bones were discovered in shallow graves in the garden of their stepfather. Lori was getting more engaged with Chad Daybell, a doomsday preacher who was married to another lady at the time of their deaths.
Lori’s brother and Chad’s wife have both died under unexplained circumstances in the past.
Lori and Chad secretly married on a Hawaii beach in November 2019, two months after JJ and Tylee disappeared.
During the time it took for them to be arrested, Lori and Chad resided in Hawaii.
The couple has refused to tell investigators what happened to the children.
The corpse of JJ was recovered beneath a tree in Chad’s backyard, and the body of his sister was located close in the man’s pet graveyard.
It was in the vicinity of where Lori’s brother’s phone had rung. Prior to this, Chad’s children had expressed their opinion that Lori is framing him and that she and her deceased brother Alex Cox are responsible for their deaths.
The judge entered a not guilty plea on Lori’s behalf since she declined to enter a plea to the murder charges.
Her trial will begin in October.
Chad was the fifth spouse of Lori. Charles, her fourth husband, was shot and killed at her house after an incident with her brother.
Lori’s 26-year-old son from a previous marriage said that anytime he inquired about the whereabouts of the two younger children, she would warn him that “all would be disclosed soon.”
Colby Ryan, age 26, said that he was still hard to accept his mother’s claims.
