Earlier, it was reported that President Bola Tinubu had met with lawmakers to discuss the upcoming inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.

During this initial meeting, Tinubu openly endorsed Senator Godswill Akpabio for the Senate Presidency, leading to disagreements among some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Counter Meeting Called by Senators-elect

New reports reveal that three Senators-elect, Abdulaziz Yari, Jimoh Ibrahim, and Elisha Abbo, have called for a counter meeting scheduled for June 9.

The notice of the meeting, signed by Abbo, gained attention due to his previous notoriety as ‘the Sex Toy Senator.’

The aim of the meeting is reportedly to rally support for Abdulaziz Yari as the new Senate President, challenging Tinubu and the APC leadership’s preferred candidate.

Tinubu’s Stance and Desire for Harmony

During his meeting with lawmakers, Tinubu reiterated his support for Akpabio and Jibrin Barau as the Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively, of the 10th National Assembly.

He expressed his administration’s desire to work in harmony with the new assembly for the benefit of the public.

However, during a subsequent meeting at the Presidential Villa, Yari, Jimoh Ibrahim, and Elisha Abbo were notably absent.

Different Perspectives on Leadership Selection

Tinubu emphasized the need for national unity and fairness in selecting the Senate President, suggesting that the position should be given to a Christian citizen.

He reassured that this decision did not intend to undermine Christianity in Nigeria.

On the other hand, Abbo insisted that lawmakers should have the freedom to choose their leaders without interference from the President or the ruling party.

The upcoming emergency meeting highlights the ongoing internal conflicts within the APC and the complexities surrounding the selection of key leadership positions in the 10th Senate.
