Jaya, the daughter of Laura Dern, is attaining adulthood!
Monday, the “Big Little Lies” actress honored her daughter’s 18th birthday with a heartfelt Instagram post.
“My daughter turns 18 today!” The 55-year-old actress captioned retro images. “Best birthday wishes, Jaya!
Dern said, “You educate me every day what it is to be an authentic and profound empath, artist, and activist.” “I adore you with all my heart.”
In a social media post, the Golden Globe winner displayed the birthday girl’s amazing cake, which had purple flowers, metallic candles, and rainbow sprinkles.
The actress provided a glimpse of the adolescent’s birthday party.
Jaya received well-wishes from Dern’s celebrity friends, including “Still Alice” actress Julianne Moore and “Vampire Diaries” alum Phoebe Tonkin.
On her own account, the adolescent commemorated the occasion with an old snapshot of herself at the beach. She accompanied the photo with a cake emoji.
Dern and her ex-husband Ben Harper welcomed Jaya in 2004, three years after the birth of their son Ellery.
Dern commended her daughter’s “honest… empathy” in the captions.
The Oscar-winning actress told Modern Luxury in September 2019 that raising her two children was “difficult and not always enjoyable.”
“On the worst days, it’s stressful and there’s too much going on as a single parent,” Dern, who divorced Harper in 2013, told the magazine. “It may be difficult to find a moment for yourself.”
“I have never been bullied by anyone else in my life as a single father,” the “Jurassic Park” star said. “I am fortunate to have advocates around me, but I am also capable of succeeding on my own.”
She continued by sharing charming flashback photos.
Three months earlier, Dern detailed how she learns to love Ellery and Jaya more “completely” with each “error” she made as a parent.
In a May 2019 InStyle interview, she stated, “I’m able to let them know I do make mistakes.” “In many aspects of my life, I avoid responsibility, but as a mother, I’m trying not to do so.”
While the Emmy-winning actress has kept her dating life under wraps since her 2010 divorce from Harper, 53, the musician wed Jaclyn Matfus in January 2015 and gave birth to their son Besso, now 5 years old.
Harper is also the father of Charles and Harris from a prior relationship.
