Lana Murphy, a Melbourne-based news journalist, posted a photo on her personal Instagram account following the protest of the right to an abortion

After a television news reporter was seen holding a sign ridiculing Christianity at a demonstration against the Roe v. Wade ruling by the US Supreme Court, Channel Nine issued an apology.

When Lana Murphy was photographed with a sign that read, “Mary (the virgin) should’ve had an abortion,” she was covering the demonstration in Melbourne.

She then posted the poster to her own Instagram account.

A Catholic writer and Twitter user named Joel Agius condemned the image as a “disgusting message of Christian hate” after it was extensively shared on social media.

The network releases a statement on Tuesday afternoon in response to the criticism from religious organizations and neighborhood residents.

According to the network, Ms. Murphy’s punishment was counseling on “why the tweet was not acceptable.”

The network stated: “The journalist did not intend to offend anyone, but has been counseled on why the post was inappropriate.”

9News apologizes to whomever the post may have offended.

We take pleasure in reporting objectively and appreciate all viewpoints on this delicate topic.

Additionally, Ms. Murphy released a statement in which she clarified that she didn’t mean to upset anyone.

She claimed that some members of the religious community had been offended by the sign’s language and her subsequent publication of the picture on her own social media account.

I sincerely apologize to those who were harmed; this was not my aim.

I admit that it was inappropriate for me to appear to have taken a side in my professional capacity.

After the United States Supreme Court removed the right to an abortion, protesters marched on Saturday in unison.
