King Harald of Norway has been hospitalized with a fever

The royal household of Norway announced in a statement this afternoon that King Harald had been admitted to the hospital with a fever.

At Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet, the 85-year-old three-time Olympian and monarch is in a stable condition, it was added.

Harald, the Queen’s second cousin, is 78th in line for the British throne.

Since taking over for his father, Olav V, in January 1991, Harald V has ruled the Scandinavian nation.

Last week, Harald competed in a sailing competition in Switzerland with a crew of six people on the family yacht Sira, which his Olympic gold medal-winning father built in the 1930s.

The monarch participated in the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympics, representing Norway in yachting events.

A month before turning 85, Harald underwent a leg operation in January, yet he persisted on competing in the Sailing World Cup.

He came in a respectable tenth position overall.

Jean Olivier Kerr, the head of the event committee, said: “He truly gave the younger sailors serious competition. Enjoyable to watch,

He exhibits a great instinct for competition. He is not merely present for his own amusement.

Due to the fact that Queen Sonja was a commoner born to a lowly clothing saleswoman, arald’s love with her at first caused controversy.

They wed in 1968 despite considerable criticism from the public.

Their son Haakon, 49, is the Crown Prince and heir apparent out of their two children.

Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, 50, is their daughter.
