Kidnapping by Mexican Cartel

Four Americans were kidnapped in Mexico after travelling across the border for a tummy tuck, and it is believed that they were taken by a cartel boss known as La Kena.

The group, consisting of Latavia ‘Tay’ McGee, her cousin Shaeed Woodard, and their friends Zindell Brown and Eric Williams, had travelled from Lake City, South Carolina to Matamoros for McGee’s surgery. Matamoros is in the state of Tamaulipas, which is currently under a travel warning.

According to Mexican officials, the group was taken on Friday after getting caught in the crossfire of a gang fight. Law enforcement officials are actively investigating whether La Kena, who leads the Gulf Cartel and is also known as Ciclon 19, was involved in their capture. Mexican authorities have been hunting him for months and are offering a reward for any information that could lead to his arrest.

Former Attorney General Bill Barr has said that drug gangs should be “dealt with like ISIS” when negotiating for Americans’ release. He stated that the Mexican government is being held hostage by tens of thousands of paramilitary members of terrorist organizations that effectively control Mexico. He believes that the government has no will and ability to deal with the cartels.

Zalandria Brown, whose younger brother Zindell is one of the victims, has contacted the FBI and local officials after learning about the kidnapping. She said that the group was extremely close and that they all made the trip in part to help split up the driving duties.

Her brother had even expressed some misgivings before the trip due to the dangers in Mexico. The FBI is now offering a $50,000 reward for the victims’ return and the arrest of the kidnappers.
