Kenyan employer seeks to compel woman to have sex in exchange for employment

This shocking incident occurred when rampant sexual assault on tea estates producing tea for PG Tips, Lipton, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s exposed and one victim contracted HIV. The Kenyan employer sought to compel the lady to have sex in exchange for employment.

A James Finlay & Company recruiter named John Chebochok summoned an undercover BBC reporter to an interview in a hotel room where she was immediately told to start caressing him and told to take remove her clothing and “lie down.”

The victim, Katy, was being held against a window by Mr. Chebochok while wearing a covert camera and yelling, “I haven’t consented.”

“Touch me,” he commanded. Only a little touch will do. just agreement. I’ll first give you some cash, and then I’ll find you work. I helped you; now assist me. We’ll collapse, finish, and then go. You then come and work.

Then, in order for her to go, a BBC crew at the hotel phoned her on her cellphone.

Sex predators prowl Kenyan tea plantations of beloved British brands

More than 70 women who work on the plantations were found to have experienced some kind of workplace sexual harassment, according to a joint investigation by BBC Panorama and BBC Africa Eye.

The victims were employed on plantations that James Finlay and the global consumer brand Unilever controlled.

One lady said that her boss’s desire for sex caused her to get infected with HIV. Another victim said that her employment was cancelled by the management unless she consented to have sex with him.

It’s simply agony, she replied; if he wants to sleep with you, find a job. After being coerced into compliance, another lady replied, “I can’t lose my work because I have kids.”

At what was intended to be a job interview for employment on a tea farm, a recruiting manager for the Scottish company James Finlay & Company confronts an undercover investigator and demands sex, as shown in secret tape obtained as part of the inquiry.

James Finlay constantly disputed undercover reporter Katy’s claims that she didn’t agree to sex. After telling her that she should, John Chebochok started pulling his clothing off.

I was so afraid and astonished, she later said. The ladies that work for Chebochok must find it really challenging.

After conducting the inquiry, James Finlay & Co. informed the BBC that the employee had been suspended, prevented from working on their tea fields, and reported to the police.

The business further disclosed to the broadcaster that it is looking into the possibility that its Kenyan operation has “an endemic problem with sexual assault.”

The second-largest tea producer in Kenya’s Rift Valley, James Finlay and Co., provides tea to Sainsbury’s and Tesco.

In response to the findings, Tesco stated it is in “continuous contact” with the firm to ensure that “strong safeguards” are implemented, while Sainsbury’s told the BBC that the “horrific claims have no place in our supply chain.”

An undercover investigator was sexually harassed by two supervisors at a tea estate that was then owned by the British Dutch business Unilever, as shown in a separate video.

The claims have left Unilever “extremely surprised and disappointed,” according to a statement to the BBC. Employees who violated the company’s code of conduct have been fired, and any illegal activity has been reported to the police.
