The Premier Soccer League launched the Player Transition Programme in January 2022, which was designed to equip footballers aged 28 to 35. Coach Education, Project Management, Facility Management, Business Innovation, Media Officers, Social Entrepreneurship, Merchandise Management, and Event Management are among the modules provided by the Gordon Institute of Business Science, which was chosen as the venture’s partner.
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene participated in the program and recently graduated in Pretoria. The Bafana ba Style goalkeeper praised the league’s initiative, stating, “Look, this was a fantastic initiative. I hope that the empowerment does not end with us and that it spreads to other players as well. Being a part of the first group also widened my perspective and helped me assess my knowledge, which makes me eager to acquire more skills. This was a revelation, and I am certain that we will all leave the program with a wealth of knowledge,” Mweene said.
The Player Transition Programme spanned six months, and football players are constantly on the road due to their schedule. The former Zambian international also addressed similar obstacles.
“I am appreciative of the club’s assistance, which made it possible for me to focus on my studies. We were studying eight courses at the time.”
“The most important thing I learned from the entire program was that we are now able to ask questions, because at first we did not comprehend. Like myself, I now own a farm. I am very interested in its day-to-day operations and the knowledge I gained during the course. Mweene concluded, “In the future, I hope to earn a degree or diploma in project management, and online learning will give me the opportunity to pursue this qualification.”
