Kaduna PDP Rejects Tribunal Verdict, Plans Appeal

The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its strong disapproval of the recent judgment delivered by the governorship election petition tribunal.

The tribunal upheld the election victory of Uba Sani from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Tribunal’s Decision:

Affirmation on Technical Grounds The three-man panel, via Zoom, confirmed Sani’s victory on what they termed “technical grounds.”

This decision was delivered in a two-against-one dissenting verdict, which went against the PDP and its candidate, Isah Ashiru.

The dissenting ruling was based on the premature filing of the application for pre-hearing by the PDP.

Petition Considered Abandoned Victor Oviawie, the head of the tribunal, stated that the petition was considered abandoned, echoing the argument put forth by Uba’s legal team.

Potential for Supplementary Election Had the petition not been dismissed on technical grounds, the tribunal indicated that it would have ordered a supplementary election in 22 polling units within 90 days.

PDP’s Response:

Legal Challenge The spokesperson of PDP in Kaduna, Alberah Catoh, issued a statement on Friday announcing the party’s intention to seek redress at the court of appeal.

According to Catoh, a review of the verdict by the party’s legal team revealed that the judgment did not meet the requirements of substantive justice.

Violation of Electoral Laws Furthermore, Catoh argued that the verdict did not align with existing electoral laws, guidelines, and regulations.

He emphasized the party’s decision to appeal the judgment within the legally specified timeframe.

Conclusion:

In closing, Catoh encouraged supporters of the PDP in Kaduna to remain patient and hopeful. He reiterated that the journey to justice might be slow but expressed confidence that they would eventually reach their destination.
