The K-pop community was hit with a devastating blow as it was announced that Moonbin, a member of the popular boy band Astro, passed away at the young age of 25.
The news was shared with fans by Astro’s label, Fantagio, on Wednesday. In their statement, the company expressed their deep sadness and mourned alongside Moonbin’s family, fans, and fellow artists.
Private Funeral for Moonbin
According to Fantagio, Moonbin’s family will hold a private funeral for him with close family, friends, and colleagues.
The label has not disclosed the official cause of death, but reports suggest that South Korean police found Moonbin dead in his apartment in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Allegedly, he did not show up for a recent rehearsal.
Moonbin’s Career with Astro
Moonbin’s fans knew him for his journey in the entertainment industry, starting as a child model in 2004, then transitioning into acting with his first role in the Korean drama “Boys Over Flowers” in 2009.
He then made his debut as a member of Astro in 2016, along with MJ, Jinjin, Rocky, Cha Eun-woo, and Yoon San-ha. The group had several hits, including “Candy Sugar Pop” and “Baby.” However, Rocky left the group in late February 2023.
Moonbin’s Health and Return
In 2019, Moonbin took a break from the group due to health-related reasons but returned to the group in the following year. Unfortunately, his passing has led to the cancellation of their upcoming concert scheduled for mid-May.
