Given that the character has significantly longer hair and a different dialect than the British actor, Joseph Quinn found it strange to watch himself portray Eddie Munson on “Stranger Things.”
Quinn told Esquire Singapore that he could see “progress” in his performances from the beginning of his career to the present day, but that watching himself in “Stranger Things” was an entirely other experience.
“With Eddie, it was a very strange experience because I was obviously wearing a wig and attempting to speak with an American accent,” he told the outlet. Consequently, there existed both a physical and a functional distinction.
Eddie, played by Quinn, has become a fan favorite since the fourth season started in May. As the captain of the “Dungeons & Dragons” club at Hawkins High School and a metalhead, he joins the series’ primary cast in their fight against creatures from the Upside Down.

As Eddie, the actor had long, wavy, dark brown hair, which is a dramatic contrast to his more strictly cropped appearance in real life. His puppet-master and bat tattoos unintentionally foreshadowed his fate in the series, according to “Stranger Things” head makeup artist Amy L. Forsythe. In addition, the job required Quinn to adopt an American accent, which, according to the actor on the “Off Menu” podcast, caused him worry.
In the July podcast episode, Quinn remarked, “You feel like a sociopath.” “After some time, I became so immersed in the rabbit hole that I would occasionally ask, ‘Do I sound good? Do you like this? Do you appreciate what I’m doing?’”
Quinn told Esquire Singapore that it was “surreal” to see himself “pop up” with his buddies on the show, but that seeing his co-stars’ performances was “the best part.”
“There were so many different stories, and it was wonderful to see the work that David Harbour, Winona Ryder, and Brett Gelman had been doing, as well as the California plotline,” he remarked. It was wonderful to see everything come together.
